There are over 3,000 shops and sites on board ready to make a donation, including Amazon, John Lewis, Aviva, thetrainline and Sainsbury's – it doesn't cost you a penny extra! It's as easy as 1, 2, 3... 1. Head to https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/westcokerscouts/ and join for free. 2. Every time you shop online, go to easyfundraising first to find the site you want and start shopping. 3. Scouts Abseil for SOS Africa

Posted by Pete GSL on October 14th 2017

On Saturday 14th October 2017 Scouts, Explorers and Leaders from West Coker Scout Group supported SOS Africa with hundreds of pounds of sponsorship as they successfully completed a sponsored abseil down St. Marys Church tower in Bruton. The event watched by many local residents and visitors saw Scouts from West Coker Scout Group, Explorers from Coker Crusaders and our supporting leaders abseil down the 110ft tower. West Coker Scout Group has a history of supporting SOS Africa over the years with events such as this charity Abseil. Two years ago our Scout Leader spent the night in Shepton Mallet Prison for the same charity. Although challenging the Scouts, Explorers and leaders had a great time and feel proud of their efforts. Funds are still coming in but the Scouts are expecting over £1000 raised for charity. Well done all who took part, you have done your troop and group proud. To find out more about the SOS Africa Charity and what they do, please visit: http://www.sosafrica.com

Best known for spending 186 days on the International Space Station and running a marathon in space, he is also a former Cub Scout and an advocate of the power of Scouting to help young people develop skills for life. The announcement is a great opportunity to raise the profile of Scouting - so please share our social media content far and wide! This announcement comes ahead of World Space Week (4 - 10 October), and we will also be launching new resources for leaders to use with their section from the UK Space Agency during the week. More details will be available in Friday’s Scouting+.

Congratulation to Katie Prigg on being presented with the Rotary Club are Young Master Chef of the Year award, Katie out cooked young people across the region, most being 2 or 3 years her senior. Katie's menu was set in true Scouting fashion, that is all cooked on two rings and what you would find in a patrol box at camp. It proves that you do not need electrical equipment if you know what you are doing. All the judges stated that her meal was to restaurant standard and would happily have paid good money for it. BRAVO Katie.
