Get involved

An introduction to Scouting

Scouting in West Coker is thriving, making an enormous difference to the lives of over a hundred young people, volunteers and our wider community members. There are many ways you can kick-start your adventure, as a young person, parent or adult volunteer. Our volunteers get involved on their terms and not all roles involve working with young people. If you can give a little time (or a lot) to help improve young lives in your community, we'd love to hear from you.

Expect more, help us do more

Be the difference to young people by volunteering with us or finding out how to help us in other ways. Over 20 young people locally are already waiting to join and we're determined that they can join the adventure.

Scouting is:

DIVERSE

With 28 million members worldwide and Scouting is the world's largest co-educational youth Movement offering opportunities for both sexes, people of different backgrounds and all faiths.

GLOBAL

Scouting is active in 216 of the World's 258 countries; this is 23 more countries than the United Nations has member states!

INCLUSIVE

In the UK Scouting provides adventurous activities and personal development opportunities for half a million people. Scouting is open to all young people aged 6 to 25 of every faith and background. There are also plenty of opportunities for adults to become involved as Leaders, Assistants or Administrators.

ACTIVE

There are over 200 activities on offer from outdoor adventure to creative projects. Here are just a few:

Sailing, kayaking, camping, hiking, drama, cooking, first aid, zorbing, community work, music, games, sports, festivals, paintball, archery, high ropes, rafting, dragon boating, scuba diving and lots more!

IN YOUR COMMUNITY

In West Coker there are over 120 Scouts aged 6-25 and this number is growing. In fact our numbers have grown every year for 9 consecutive years!

FOR ADULTS TOO

Over 40 adults volunteer their time to support scouting in the Group. Volunteers donate as many hours as they like and cover a vast range of roles from working with young people on the ground to offering their particular expertise in accountancy, marketing, cooking, programme instructing, building, management and administration. Whatever time you have to offer and whatever role you would like to perform West Coker Scouts would love to hear from you.

AND WE HAVE ONE COMMON PURPOSE...

To promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.
